Depression can have a significant impact on high school students.
It can affect their mood, motivation, and overall well-being. It may lead to difficulties in concentrating, experiencing a loss of interest in activities, and having trouble with schoolwork.
In addition to affecting mood and motivation, depression can impact a high school student's social life, relationships, and academic performance.
It can make it challenging to connect with peers, participate in extracurricular activities, and focus on studies.
Depression can affect many aspects of a student’s life. One of the biggest aspects is their academics. “Mental health problems can affect a student’s energy level, concentration, dependability, mental ability, and optimism, hindering performance” (SPRC).
“The negative impact of anxiety and depression on students’ academic progress and overall well-being is very clear” (IBCCES).
Being a high school student with depression is difficult. “Complications related to teen depression may include alcohol and drug misuse, academic problems, family conflicts, relationship difficulties, and suicide attempts/suicide” (Mayo Clinic).
“Teen depression signs and symptoms include a change from the teenager’s previous attitude and behavior that can cause significant distress and problems at school or home, in social activities, or other areas of life” (Mayo Clinic).
