Students must have a support system in place, including friends, family, and mental health professionals.

High school students dealing with depression can turn to various sources for support.

There are some sources for high school students with depression, some being more common than others.

Antidepressant drugs are a common treatment for depression. They are very effective as they reduce symptoms of depression, but they can also have side effects.

“Antidepressant drugs are often an effective way to treat depression and anxiety in children and teenagers” (Mayo Clinic).

Another very common treatment for depression is therapy. Therapy promotes mental wellbeing and helps create safety plans. Therapy also teaches healthy coping mechanisms and increases self-confidence.

“Depression treatment often includes medication and individual, group, and/or family therapy. Other activities may include physical exercise, art/music therapy, and school work” (Bonin, Moreland).

Since depression can seriously affect highschool students, it is important to know how they can get better/manage their symptoms.
